As the 2025 fall season wraps up, El Segundo’s athletics celebrate successful campaigns.
At Hazeltine Field, Eagles varsity football had an amazing season, finishing 8-2 overall, with statement shutout wins over Beverly Hills and Centennial (59-0, 35-0 respectively) to round out the regular season.
These massive victories were sparked by their formidable offense. Junior dual threat QB Ryan Wiacek has 8 total TD’s on the season, and is averaging 180 passing yds/gm, the most in Ocean League. The offense is also powered by an experienced senior o-line crew including center Preston Greaser and LT Samiuela Vaikona. Behind the line, senior running back Lincoln Quaintance has bruised for 8 total touchdowns this year.
The defense is also a tough unit, led by junior linebacker Charles Juarez with 61 tackles, and senior two-way player Axel Theiss with 4 interceptions. Theiss also led the team with 61 receiving yards/gm. With an 8-2 record overall and 3-1 in league play, the Eagles are “ready to make a deep run in the playoffs” per senior defensive end Jake Danford.
In the pool, boys Waterpolo continued their stellar run, with a 3OT in the first round of the CIF division 2 playoffs over the Edison Chargers. Senior standout Cooper Albano slotted the game winning penalty shot, securing the Eagles with their golden goal victory. Boys Waterpolo moves on to face Orange Lutheran in a CIF rematch on Tuesday, November 4th.
Back on Hazeltine, the girls varsity flag football team finished their second year as a program. The Lady Eagles finished 3rd in league and look to improve with a young core of talented players for next year’s 2026 fall season.
In the gym, girls volleyball etched a fantastic 12-6 season. Led by senior stalwarts Macy Ludwig and Lauren Calof, the Eagles booked a trip to the CIF division 2 playoffs. Their run came to an end against Murrieta Mesa this past week, but the Eagles celebrate a hard fought season and look forward to the Beach Volleyball season this Spring.
The Girls golf team improved massively throughout this season. Spearheaded by seniors Ashley Perkins and Kayla Davis, the Eagles climbed 30 spots up the rankings in the Southern Section. I spoke with coach Lauren Ryker, who lauded the girls for improving greatly throughout the season, and with a large group of talented juniors coming back next year, the program is on the rise.
Last but certainly not least, the Eagles girls tennis team was led by the young guns this year as freshman Saa Elliott took the Pioneer League Girls Varsity Tennis season by storm. Elliot rose above the rest, with 46 undefeated singles matches including clinching the Pioneer League Individual Championships. Elliot never dropped more than 3 games in any match this year. True dominance from a promising young star.
Thank you to all the parents and fans that have supported El Segundo Fall sports this year, and don’t forget to go support your Eagles Water Polo and Football teams as they advance in the CIF playoffs!
GO EAGLES!!!
